We will visit together the most beautiful and significant places of the city: Piazza del Campo, church of San Domenico, Cathedral square. I will tell you about the extraordinary life of Saint Catherine. We will walk along the famous medieval road, the Francigena, where ancient castles and medieval palaces still stand. We will see the places of the Palio, suggestive views and panoramic points.

  • Cathedral: in the highest and oldest part of the city stands the Duomo of Siena, one of the most important examples of Gothic architecture in Italy. The interior preserves the works of the greatest Italian artists such as MichelangeloDonatelloBerniniPinturicchioand many others.

  • Crypt and Baptistery: improperly called “Crypt” is a place found during recent excavations below the cathedral. It is completely frescoed by Sienese artists of the mid-thirteenth centuryincluding, perhaps, the young Duccio di Buoninsegna. It is one of the most important archaeological discoveries of recent decades. The baptistery is a chest full of Renaissance works of artists such as DonatelloLorenzo GhibertiJacopo della Quercia and il Vecchietta.

  • Palio Tour: A city tour among the places and stories of the most famous and traditional race of horses in the world. We will explore the districts, their symbols and secrets, their headquarters and their museums.

  • Palazzo Pubblico.Seat of political power in Siena since the Middle Ages. Iconic place of the city in which are preserved some of the most representative works of the golden age of Siena, such as the famous fresco of the Buongoverno by Ambrogio Lorenzetti. Here, you can still see some rooms of the medieval Sienese government times.

  • Museo dell’Opera: Located in Piazza Duomo.here are kept works from the Cathedral and the churches of the diocese, documenting the art and culture of Siena. Here you find works such as the original statues of the facade of the Cathedral sculpted by Giovanni Pisano, the “Madonna del Perdono” by Donatelloand the Maestà by Duccio di Buoninsegna made for the high altar of the Cathedral.
    You can also access the top of the so-called “Facciatone” from which you can see Siena at 360 degrees.

  • Santa Maria della Scala.One of the oldest institutions in Siena. It offered a bed and a hot meal to pilgrims on their way along the Frankish The stories of the “Spedale” (hospital) of Santa Maria can still be read through the frescoes of the Pellegrinaio: a true historical document that tells us the story of daily life of the hospital. In addition, inside the building there is the archaeological museum with finds from the city and its territory.

  • Siena National Art Gallery: It preserves a large collection of works from the fourteenthand fifteenth-century of the Sienese school. You can find  masterpieces by artists such as  Duccio di BuoninsegnaSimone Martini and the brothers Pietro and Ambrogio Lorenzetti. In the fifteenth century we find the painting of Giovanni di Paolo and Sano di Pietro, but also the Renaissance art of SassettaVecchiettaMatteo di Giovanni, up to the full adherence of Francesco di Giorgio Martini. With Domenico Beccafumi Siena welcomed Mannerism along with his contemporaries SodomaRiccioMarco PinoBrescianino. Then, between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries we have other Sieneses painters: Francesco VanniRutilio Manetti and Bernardino Mei.
